Parliament adjourned for the year after an extended session through the morning and early afternoon to 'clean up' a variety of bills before the end of the year. The year ended with a spirited adjournment debate, albeit without the respective National and Labour leaders, who were attending Nelson Mandela's remembrance ceremony. This Bill English line roused his own troops the most: "Talking to the Greens about the economy is like talking to Jack the Ripper about community safety."

The Privileges Committee tabled a highly critical report of the Henry Inquiry and four bills were introduced to the house, along with plenty more parliamentary action at the beginning of the last session before the Christmas break.
