7. One fun thing...

Newsroom's Foreign Affairs and Trade Editor Sam Sachdeva normally limits himself to reporting the news. On Friday, he cheekily asked the European Union's Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom (whom he had interviewed last week) if New Zealand could put an entry into the Eurovision song contest. Via Twitter.

She said yes...and now there seems a serious prospect of New Zealand of being involved.

He has a lot to answer for.

Here's the exchange:

Sam Sachdeva: The big question Cecilia @MalmstromEU is yet to answer during her NZ trip: is there a spot for us in Eurovision? She did cite Australia's admission as "the most important, momentous step" in EU-Oz relations: pic.twitter.com/3tQ1nNEcZ5

Cecilia Malmstrom (in reply) : I think we should give this done serious consideration. :)

It's clear she's running the twitter account herself...

Stuff did a story.
